My Art Statement:
My work delves into the intricate interplay between past memories of home and the creation of new futures. This journey is deeply informed by two transformative experiences: my relocation to the United States and my transition from a career in electrical engineering to the arts.
Rooted in a material-driven practice, I incorporate mixed media such as book covers, corrugated cardboard, and map imagery. These elements, along with recurring motifs like round shapes and letters, evoke themes of travel, the journey home, and the cyclical nature of life. Together, they symbolize the fragile yet dynamic essence of belonging and home, serving as metaphors for the evolving boundaries of identity, place, and safety.
Home, as I portray it, is both a safe haven and an imagined fortress—shaped by national identity, memory, and personal and collective narratives. It is a space meant to offer safety, warmth, and comfort while also existing as an evolving construct. The journey to find or create a true sense of home requires navigating a delicate balance: seeking physical security alongside emotional connection and a deep sense of belonging.
Through my art, I strive to cultivate empathy and inclusivity, sparking conversations that resonate within a broader social context. I aim to invite audiences to reflect on their own narratives of identity, belonging, and the essence of home.
