My art utilizes marks to guide viewers into and out of the painting, inviting exploration of hidden and revealed layers. This interplay between concealment and revelation enhances the visual experience, fostering dialogue with the viewer. Through this approach, I aim to create art that captivates aesthetically and prompts thoughtful exploration of space, form, and meaning.
About
Rachel Tirosh is an interdisciplinary artist whose work navigates the interplay between memory, identity, and the creation of new futures. Her artistic journey has been profoundly shaped by two transformative experiences: relocating from Israel to the United States and transitioning from a career in electrical engineering to the arts. These shifts have fueled her exploration of the duality between rootedness and mobility, influencing her non-representational abstract and interdisciplinary conceptual practice.
Rachel’s creative process is driven by tension—the dynamic push and pull of opposing forces. Through meticulous layering, cycles of construction and deconstruction, and a careful orchestration of composition and color, she creates work that reflects the fluid rhythms of life. She employs rich materials such as paper, wood, wire, and natural fibers like jute, hemp, and flax to craft textures that evoke themes of nurturing, protection, and connection to the environment.
Her work has evolved from mixed-media abstract painting into interactive architectural installations—screens, shelters, and labyrinths—that invite audience participation. These spaces serve as sites of solace, reflection, and dialogue, fostering deeper connections and community engagement. Rachel’s practice delves into the fragility of home, exploring experiences of loss, belonging, renewal, and care while inspiring meaningful conversations.
Deeply engaged in the Bay Area art scene, Rachel has been an active member of co-op galleries and art groups, exhibiting her work throughout Northern California. She is currently pursuing her MFA in Fine Arts at Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA).

My latest public art piece, Sun Flair, will be installed at Ortega Park in Sunnyvale as part of the Sun Flair Sculpture Program. This temporary public art initiative, led by the City of Sunnyvale’s Public Art Program, connects local artists with residents while encouraging exploration of the city’s neighborhood parks. Sun Flair is one of 26 sculptures created by local artists, each transforming a large, plain sun sculpture into a unique representation of Sunnyvale’s values, history, and community spirit.
My piece “Sun of Many Lights” celebrates the harmonious interplay of light and darkness. It illustrates how light alleviates uncertainty, offering clarity and warmth, while darkness becomes a canvas for hope and transformation. The design features candle flames radiating from a spiral center, symbolizing the journey of life. This spiral, crafted from epoxy sculpt, also embodies the interconnectedness of all beings, suggesting that each person’s light contributes to a greater, ever-expanding whole.
